After a huge couple of weeks for the Hobart Hurricanes, the club can announce that opening batter Caleb Jewell has been traded to the Melbourne Renegades for cap space.
The move allows Jewell to move to a new BBL club after playing for his hometown club since BBL|08.
Jewell, who made 164 runs in seven matches for the Hurricanes last season with a top score of 76 against the Brisbane Heat, has played 58 matches across six seasons for the club.
He was a key component of the Hurricanes batting line-up in the back end of BBL|14 after the departure of Shai Hope, opening the batting with Mitch Owen.
Jewell is the sixth highest run scorer in BBL history for the Hurricanes with 1210 runs, and the eight most capped player.
High Performance General Manager, Salliann Beams thanks Jewell for his commitment to the Hurricanes.
“Caleb has been an important part of our franchise for nearly a decade since signing his first BBL contract in 2017, and he has been integral in our Championship run this season, putting the team first with the role he played this season.
“He came to us earlier in the week asking for a release so he can be guaranteed more game time. For him to be playing more consistent cricket will only have greater benefits for our Male Tasmanian Tigers program, and for Caleb himself.
“We know the strong talent that he possesses and wish him all the best at his next club,” stated Beams.
The Hobart Hurricanes would like to thank Caleb for his commitment to the Hurricanes throughout his career with us and look forward to hosting him as a member of the Renegades next summer.
