Hurricanes Trophy Tour – Northern Tasmania

After a special night on Monday, the Hobart Hurricanes will be travelling statewide early next week to celebrate with the entirety of Tasmania.

Hobart Hurricanes players, who will also be playing for the Tasmanian Tigers in Launceston on Wednesday as part of the One Day Cup, will be available at two locations in the north of the state on Monday and Tuesday next week.

This will give fans in Northern Tasmania an opportunity to take a photo with the BBL trophy, meet some of their favourite BBL players, and enjoy activations that have been staples of BBL|14 matches this summer.

Kicking off in Devonport on Monday 3 February at Meercroft Park from 3.30 pm – 5.00 pm, and in Launceston on Tuesday 4 February at Invermay Park from 10.00 – 11.30 am, fans can experience a free cricket clinic, face painting, food vans, and purchase merchandise and Hurricanes memberships.

The Hurricanes Fan Day and Trophy Tour is aiming to provide all Tasmanians a chance to experience the success of the ‘Cane Train this summer and help inspire future generations of players like Riley Meredith and Matt Wade at a day like this.

Cricket Tasmania CEO, Dominic Baker, is delighted to see that the Hobart Hurricanes can share the joy of a BBL Championship with all of Tasmania, and thanked the Tasmanian Government and local councils for their support.

“Winning BBL|14 was something very special for all of Tasmania, and while only 15,709 people had the chance to attend the game at Ninja Stadium on Monday, we knew that there was an entire state behind us.

“The Hurricanes Fan Days will give our players and organisation a chance to thank everyone for their support of the Hurricanes throughout this summer,”

“These events are made possible with the support of the Tasmanian Government, Devonport City Council and the City of Launceston, and we’re grateful for that,” said Baker.

Nick Duigan, the Minister for Sports and Events spoke to the importance of sport to Tasmania.

"We’ve seen the power of Sport and the way that it can unite a state and bring people together.

"The Hurricanes are Tasmania's team and that's why our Government is supporting this Championship tour.

“Tasmanians watched the win right across the state and now it's their turn to celebrate.

"These tours are a place for Tasmanians to come together, champion our own, and a place to dream.

"We've all seen the photo of Mitchell Owen in 2015 sitting in the crowd, cheering on the hurricanes - fast forward 10 years and he won the match off his own bat. That’s what it’s about. Giving our young kids the chance to dream big,” said Minister Duigan.

The City of Devonport Mayor Alison Jarman is looking forward to hosting the Hurricanes next week.

“On behalf of the Devonport community, congratulations to the Hobart Hurricanes on their incredible BBL championship victory, this historic win is a moment of pride for all of Tasmania, inspiring the next generation of athletes and uniting our communities in celebration!

“We are honoured to welcome the Hurricanes to Devonport and can’t wait to share in the excitement with the team and their loyal supporters.

“Their dedication, passion, and resilience embody the spirit of Tasmanian sport, and we look forward to celebrating this unforgettable achievement together!” said Mayor Jarman.

For the rest of Tasmania, the Trophy will be on tour around the state in the coming weeks with plans being put in place so all aspects of the state can experience the excitement of seeing the BBL Trophy in person.

Details around media opportunities for these two events will be provided shortly, with the main media event to be held on Tuesday in Launceston.
