Hurricanes name W/BBL Players of the Tournament

The annual Awards Night recognised a wide array of achievements and performances across all levels of the Cricket Tasmania high performance program throughout the 2021-22 season, including a 3-2-1-style vote count to determine the Hurricanes Player of the Tournament awards.

Fit and firing for WBBL|07 after sitting out the previous tournament with injury, Tayla Vlaeminck was a woman on a mission, displaying exceptional consistency and providing a constant threat through all 14 fixtures. Using her blistering pace, Vlaeminck took 13 wickets at 22.38, highlighted with best figures of 3-21 against the Perth Scorchers. Her economy of 6.06 was the ninth best in the competition, and one of the standouts among pace bowlers, with her efforts earning her a place in the League's Team of the Tournament - the only Hurricane to receive the honour in WBBL|07.

There’s not much else to be said about Ben McDermott's BBL|11 campaign that hasn't been mentioned already - it was simply extraordinary.  Our power-hitter made history by making centuries in back-to-back innings - becoming the first player in the BBL to do so - with knocks of 110* against the Adelaide Strikers and 127 against the Melbourne Renegades. Leading the entire competition with a total of 577 runs at an average of 48.08 and a strike rate of 153.86, McDermott smashed 46 fours and 29 sixes on his way to winning the BBL|11 Player of the Tournament award. McDermott's exceptional BBL form led into a very successful white ball tour with the Australia, team in Pakistan, in which he notched yet another century; his first in green and gold.
