WBBL|06 Match Preview: Nov 7 + 8

Player-of-the-Match in Tuesday’s nine-wicket win, Nicola Carey, said Tuesday’s win was really important for her team, after an otherwise disappointing start to WBBL|06.

“It was really important for us,” Carey reiterated. “It’s obvious that we haven’t got off to the best of starts in this tournament with a couple of really disappointing losses, but I think [Tuesday] really showed what we are able to do.  I think all the girls bowled really well…and to get it [the winning runs] one [wicket] down in the 13th [over] is a really good effort from the girls.”

First up this weekend, the Hurricanes will face the Sydney Sixers at North Sydney Oval.  Traditionally, the Sixers have had the wood over the Hurricanes, victorious in the teams’ first 11 encounters. The Hurricanes finally snapped that winning streak in their most recent encounter however, with a five-wicket win the last time both teams met in November 2019.

On Sunday the Hurricanes will then front up to face the Sixers crosstown rivals, the Sydney Thunder.  It will be a big occasion in particular for Hurricanes openers, Rachel Priest and Naomi Stalenberg, who will both face their old team for the first time.  Interestingly, Priest has scored 112 runs from 66 balls in her last three WBBL innings in games between the Hurricanes and the Thunder; this, however, will be her first appearance in this fixture in a purple jersey if selected in the final XI.

The 14-player squad named for this weekend’s matches is as below:

Corinne Hall (c)
Nell Bryson Smith
Nicola Carey
Brooke Hepburn
Erica Kershaw
Hayley Matthews
Sasha Moloney
Rachel Priest
Chloe RaffertyOval.
Amy Smith
Naomi Stalenberg
Emma Thompson
Chloe Tryon
Belinda Vakarewa

If selected in the final XI, Nell Bryson Smith and Chloe Rafferty will make their respective Hurricanes debuts, whilst Hayley Matthews will play her 50th WBBL game for the Hurricanes.
